When the Gate Feels Heavy

A quiet reminder that faithful care still matters when the work is unseen, the load feels heavy, and the day asks more from us than we expected.

Today’s Scripture

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Reflection

Some mornings, the gate feels heavier than it should.

Not because the hinge changed. Not because the latch is different. But because the person opening it is carrying more than usual.

Sanctuary work has a way of revealing the hidden weight of love. Animals need feed whether we slept well or not. Water has to be checked whether the day is convenient or not. Fences need watching. Wounds need patience. Small signs of healing need noticing.

And much of that work happens without applause.

That is where Galatians 6:9 lands with quiet strength. It does not pretend doing good is always easy. It does not shame the weary. It simply says, do not give up.

At Dalo Acres, care is not measured only by the big rescue moment. It is measured by the repeated ordinary act. The fresh water. The clean bedding. The slow trust of an animal learning that hands can be safe. The willingness to come back tomorrow and do it again.

God sees that kind of work.

He sees the unseen tending. He sees the tired faithfulness. He sees every small mercy given to a creature that cannot repay it.

The harvest may not come fast. Sometimes it looks like a donkey standing a little closer. A chicken recovering strength. A goat resting without fear. A child learning gentleness by watching someone care for the vulnerable.

Those are holy things.

So when the gate feels heavy, open it anyway. Not because you are strong every morning, but because God is faithful every morning.

Questions for Today

  • Where am I feeling weary from doing good?
  • What small act of care can I offer today without needing recognition?
  • Who or what has God placed in front of me that simply needs steady faithfulness?

Prayer

Lord, give me strength for the work that no one sees. Help me keep showing up with patience, gentleness, and courage. Teach me to trust that ordinary faithfulness matters to You. When I am tired, remind me that I do not carry this alone. Let my hands bring peace, my words bring calm, and my care reflect Your mercy. Amen.

Sanctuary Thought

Hope often grows quietly. It grows in chores, in patience, in second chances, and in the decision to keep caring when nobody is watching.

That is the heartbeat of Dalo Acres Animal Sanctuary: where animals heal and hope grows.
