Jon Conklin’s story begins in the country. He grew up around horses, livestock, hard work, and the kind of daily responsibility that teaches you early that care is not theory. It is feed buckets, fence lines, muddy boots, and showing up again tomorrow.
That upbringing shaped the way he sees animals, the way he thinks about stewardship, and the way he builds. Long before Dalo Acres had a name, the impulse behind it was already there: protect what is vulnerable, stay when it would be easier to move on, and build something worth handing forward.
Today, that same instinct shows up in two connected callings: practical animal care through Draw It Out®, and long-view sanctuary work through Dalo Acres.
The man behind the mission
At Dalo Acres, Jon is not just a founder in name. He is the reason the mission feels grounded instead of ornamental.
Where the work came from
With a Master’s degree in Child and Developmental Psychology, Jon spent years helping people work through trauma, hardship, and resilience. That season sharpened something already in him: the belief that healing takes time, trust, and the right environment.
Dalo Acres carries that same conviction into the animal world. Some animals do not need to be rushed, managed for appearances, or written off. They need consistency, safety, and a place where care is allowed to last.
Why Dalo Acres exists
After moving to Cache Valley, Jon felt the pull to build something bigger than a business. He wanted a place where rescue meant more than intake, where faith meant more than words, and where the legacy of family, land, and responsibility could keep working in the present.
That became Dalo Acres Animal Sanctuary, a name rooted in family and a mission rooted in second chances.
